Off Topic About AOL

I know the people in this group are pretty savvy about a lot of things
so if you could help me I would appreciate it.

I am think of joining AOL. We want only one account...no networking.
We want to use our computer with AOL in our den. I want to use the
same AOL account in my office 17 miles away. Now I know by logging on
at both places we can do so. but can we do it at thie same time from
both places?

My question is, if I am on the computer in my office and I am checking
mail and my wife at home tries to log on AOL at home at the same time
I am on, will she be able to? And if so, could both of check the mail
at the same time? Thank you for help on this off-topic subject.

If you join AOL you won't have access to this or any other newsgroup. If
that matters.

also I have heard that AOL monitors everything from their AIM to any
e-mails. I don't know if that is 100% true but that would turn a lot of ppl
off.

I would avoid AOL like the plague. It is generally considered to
be one of the worst ISPs with the minimum service. For example, it
does not serve usenet (i.e. no newsgroups).

I have been quite happy with ATT. They certainly offer multiple
user names on the same account, but I don't know about simultaneous
access. My experience is also limited to dial-up access.

No you will not be able to log on while already logged on at another
computer. I got rid of AOL long ago for many reasons. One was that I was
unable to logon because someone else had somehow logged on illegally to my
account.. I had to call AOL and wait around an hour to get through to tell
them to disconnect the illegal user. They had no idea how someone else was
able to get into my account. If you are a 13 year old girl then go ahead and
join AOL.

You mean you're a masochist. It's cheaper and quicker to
just stab yourself in the arm with a sharp object.

OK? Doesn't really matter though, except that if anything,
you're more limited with AOL. With other ISPs you can
easily have a home network or proxy or whatever, even a
dialup server if you had two landlines at home. For someone
asking about AOL, these are probably topics beyond
reasonable implementation.

No, because you only have (want) one account. You can buy
another account. Some ISPs (dunno about AOL) will allow you
to do it, then bill you extra for it.

As mentioned above, if they allow it then you'd be billed
most likely, but usually no, you can't do that.

If all you want is dial-up, and since AOL charges a premium
for their dialup, I suggest you just get two normal
budget-rate accounts from another ISP. Typical rates these
days are $10/mo. per account. Maybe if you got lucky you
could find one that gives you a discount on the 2nd account,
and no stabbing yourself in the arm either.
