Default P5W DH Deluxe - REMOTE CONTROL

It's annoying that I chose to get a P5W DH Deluxe instead of a P5B Deluxe
because of this stupid remote control that I don't even use.

I'm thinking of giving it another try, as it is quite useful to turn the PC
off from a distance, I suppose.

But has anybody been able to use the software to get it to control anything
else? I'd really like to get it to control Vista's Media Centre, as I don't
have a MS MCE remote yet.

I know about the power control and stuff that the remote control can do, but
I was wondering what applications other people have successfully controlled
with it. Media Centre, Windows Media Centre, Winamp, etc..?

It controls (or opens) my PowerDVD app with no problems. Is that the only
diff between the P5W and the P5B? Does the P5B have wireless? Will it accept
the Quad Cores when available? How many IDE drives can it hold? USB ports?
Can it support as many memory types as the P5W? If none of those are of
concern to you, then yes, you should have gone the P5B route. But I use
them all (including Access Point feature). So the extra $50 I paid for the
P5W compared to the P5B was well worth it, especially for the 975X chipset
and the ability to handle the Quad Cores for upgradeability. The remote
didn't cost the extra $50.

Yes, there is a version with wi-fi, and that is the one which i would have
got.

Yes, it is Quad core ready. But that is of little concern for me anyway as
I don't replace components like that. When the computer is around three
years old I have made it into a secondary desktop computer or server and
build a new one in the past.

> How many IDE drives can it hold?

It has one IDE controller (two drives) and that is all I need for one
optical drive and for and IDE mobile rack for old drives for backup. All my
new drives are SATA.

The fact that the P5B has the newer ICH8 southbridge with 6 SATA ports,
without the stupid Sil controller stuck onto it, is the reason I regret not
getting it.

> USB ports?

Same as the P5W DH Deluxe

> Can it support as many memory types as the P5W?

It doesn't support ECC memory, which does not concern me. I bought Mushkin
eXtreme Performance DDR2 800 memory, which will not be replaced until I
build a new machine. You are using ECC memory?

I am also not interested in overclocking, and AI Nap and AI Gear are two
features that i would have liked to have as well. So for me, the P5B Deluxe
is what i should have bought.
