Default (Packard Bell) Azus P5S800-VM/S Motherboard TIA

I have acquired this pc with problems. I am looking for hints on why
this PC freezes after a very short running time, around three to four
minutes. It takes a long while to even show the PB logo. When it is
rebooted after freezing I have to wait 10 minutes or so before booting
(which points to overheating?) I have checked the fan, heatsink
etc..working & spotless. Could it possibly be a bad PSU? Any help in
this would be very gratefully received.

1.Check the Event Viewer/Apps and System for errors.
2.Check All fans are running correctly.
3.Does it run longer with the cover off ?.
4.Whip the heat sink off, and apply new thermal paste,(CPU)
(a very thin coating).
