PCI Card with PS/2 ports

I have searched through Google and Froogle trying to find a PCI card
with PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports. Is such a thing possible?

I have an older PC that will not boot without a PS/2 keyboard and mouse
attached. and the keyboard port appears to have gone bad. Are the
onboard PS/2 ports some sort of specially recognized ports? Therefore
making a PCI PS/2 add-in card useless?

For the record: I have attempted to use a PS/2 to USB adapter, to see
if that would help my computer boot.

Any help is appreciated.

I can't find one either, however Dell does say they have
one available for their newest, BTX Mobo, computers that
only have USB ports natively. I've had good luck with USB
to
PS2 adapters from Newegg on laptops;

Perhaps this type of interface is not possible (PS/2 over PCI) and that
is why we have not seen these types of PCI Cards. Does anyone know if
this is true?

It is possible, but there's little to no market for it since
practically (most) systems with PCI bus have PS2 ports
already and there are limited uses for PS2... ignoring the
oldest systems that had AT keyboard port only.

It could be that even if you found a PCI PS2 port card, it
would not be sufficient to get system running, that it may
still halt on error when it can't find the keyboard
connected to the integrated PS2 port. (Re)check your bios
to see if you might have missed a halt-on-error type of
setting, and set it to "none" if possible.

If that's not possible you are left either replacing the
motherboard, or troubleshooting why the PS2 port doesn't
work. It could be something like a torn circuit trace, or a
blown fuse, or a port power jumper that has come off a pin
header... there were a few board that used such headers and
without the manual it was difficult (and dangerous to
randomly try pin combinations due to some pins having 5V on
them) but if you post details about your motherboard make
and model, it "might" be helpful. Generally speaking, when
dealing with equipment having a unique problem it is always
advisable to post the specifics about the eqipment, not just
a description of the problem.

I had a Toshiba mainboard develop a flakey PS/2 socket once. The socket
contact 'pins' had become pressed farther back into the socket, such that
the plug would not reach them. I removed the metal housing over the PS/2
socket and carefully pressed them forward, as well as pressed each of the
contacts back together to insure positive contact.

Unless you are sure it is farther in the mainboard, you might consider
refurbishing the socket mechanism itself.
