the Celeron is a faster chip as far as clock speed goes - it runs at 2.4 ghz
whereas the Athlon runs at 1.67ghz. the Athlon is rated a XP2000 because it
performs like an Intel 2ghz chip. the other thing to remember is the Athlon
was the premium chip AMD produced at the time and had the full cache - L1
128kb and L2 256kb. the Celeron is a budget chip and hence only has 28kb L1.
I still think because of clock rate the Celeron is slightly faster.

The OP is talking about the Celeron D - which is not the same as the
Celeron, especially in terms of cache size. Everest reports that my
2.4 GHz Celeron D has the "Prescott" core.
