I have a Epson R290 color ink-jet that I use only for printing on DVDs
that contain my movie collection.
I use the Sony printable DVDs. I have printed on hundreds of them.
I use only the Epson ink cartridges and I print only black type. (Even
though the other colors are slowly consumed too.)
When I get some smudging (rarely) I clean the nozzles via the Epson
printer program and this works OK.
