Try going to Nvidia website and download the forceware for your card.
I just had to find a win98 driver for my friend's nvidia card, and I
believe your Geforce 4 MX440 is supported.

Lates DirectX Version is always recommended unless PC is really old
(not able to run XP/2000)

Also you should update your chipset/AGP GART drivers
