Default SATA/PATA 2.5" drives

Are the connectors for SATA and PATA 2.5" hard drives the same?

I have bought a 2.5" external enclosure from eBay, and on the box it says it
can be used with any 2.5" drive.

ss.

It stands to reason that they're not.

It might be an old box that predates SATA.

Is the internal connector a ribbon cable with 44 pins (PATA)
or two much smaller L-shaped connectors (SATA)?

They are not the same. Maybe it has 2 connectors inside?

Wrong. They use different connectors.
