Default Sony Vaio Power Up Problem

I have a Sony Vaio desktop and just recently, whenever I attempt to
turn on the computer, as long as I am holding the power button in, it's
fine, but as soon as I let go of the power button, the computer just
shuts down.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Once I get home, I will post
computer specifics if they are needed, but can anyone, just off the top
of their heads, post an idea or suggestion as to what the problem might
be?

It just went from one night we were watching a DVD on it, to the next
night, this problem happening and now we can't get it to work. If
anyone could lend a hand, I would greatly appreciate it!!

Thanks
Dan

Check for the "lid close" switch. It may be jammed and pressing the power
button may override it.

Noozer, where should I check for the "lid close" switch at? Open up my
computer and actually dig around in there to see?

Probably near the hinges. You shouldn't need to open the laptop to find the
switch. It will definately be small.

It works like the switch on the door of your refrigerator to turn the light
on and off. It tells the laptop that you've closed the lid so it can turn
off the backlight, and go to sleep (if you've set it that way)

Noozer saw Vaio, and automaticly thought "laptop," your machine doesn't
HAVE a lid close switch.
