System comparison. Please help me make the right purchase

I'm looking to build a couple of systems right away just for simple
home use. I don't play games too much on my PC at all, so, I'm just
looking to build a decent and comptent system for general computer
use. The specs I have are below. As you can see, about the only
things different are the CPUs and the motherboards.

Which system would you guys prefer to have? Thanks. Oh, and also, if
I plan on having these computers hooked up in a wireless home network,
should I be looking at mobos that do not have an onboard ethernet at
all or does that not matter at all? Thanks.

sink on it. Looks good.

This system cost $443.92, and it is super
quiet, and very quick. I installed WinXP
on it in about 8 minutes. If you need a
video monitor, get the Viewsonic 19 inch
wide screen LCD monitor. Also, Microsoft
web keybd and mouse for $19.

Doesnt matter at all, most of the wireless
capable laptops have onboard ethernet as well.

Just know that onboard video is poor at best when it comes to gaming
performance. Onboard sound is also poor as it picks up all the "cracks" of
electrical current in the motherboard and it slows down performance because
it taps into the cpu to do its processing, rather than a pci sound card like
X-FI or AUDIGY 2. If you think computers arn't a whole lot of fun, it's
because when you buy cheap, you get cheap.

If you already have moniters, subtract the price and get a couple of X-FI's

Actually, you're spec'ing a dualcore against a single core, but the dual
core won't give much advantage in normal use, unless you do a lot of
graphics, video editing and such.

I looked at prices in my favored shop in Finland (no D805 anymore)

Intel D820 104eur
Intel E6300 198eur

AMD AthlonX2 3800+ AM2 156eur
AMD Athlon 3800+ AM2 114eur


And of these, the Intel E6300 should run rings around the rest..
The mobo you spec'd for the D805 should also (according to
http://www.intel.com/products/mother...GZIS/index.htm

accomndate a Core2Duo, ie. the E6300, but check if there's a specific BIOS
level required..

Not sure what you're trying to build above but it's not a
decent gaming system. The video card is too slow, the
memory is rather expensive and not enough for longer-term
use, the HDD is a poor size per $, and the monitor (while
not "bad"), is merely average today. Granted with that
video card it would be bad to get a higher resolution
monitor as that'll require driving a lot more pixels at
native resolution.

I'm suggesting that for $1000, he might end up with a slower
gaming system than just buying a $200 video card and
putting it into his present system.

and video cards is obvious.

As I wrote, the issue with the HDD is size per $. It does
not perform significantly better than most other
contemporary alternatives and further, for gaming
performance the HDD matters least of all, any single-digit
performance difference is far outweighed by other factors.
Even installing more memory when the game itself doesnt'
need it for optimal framerates, but merely so more of the
game files are cached for reloads, with be multiple times
greater performance increase.

You actually think spending $1000 on a gaming system with
X1600 based card is a good value?

That's too funny.

I'm not knocking X1600 for general purpose video with light
gaming, but that is not what I wrote about- rather it's
appropriateness for gaming in a $1000 system versus a more
powerful video card.
