Default UPS Backup

How long will the batteries usually last in a UPS APC backup? I have an IBM
Office pro 700. About 5 yrs old. My computer shut down a few times on it's
own and the battery light on the UPS turned yellow (first time I saw that).
Just curious. Sent for a new one anyway to be safe. 800VA.

It depends a lot on how often and how low you run them... I
don't know what the cutoff voltage is on your unit.

Generally even if it NEVER kicks in, the batteries should be
replaced every 3 years for best runtime, or when the
indicator lights up if you can accept less runtime but a
longer replacement interval. Certainly at the 5 year mark,
it's time to do that.

Did they specify the batteries in it ?. I would expect 'standard' batteries
to have upto 5 years life before replacement , better specified up to 10
years.
It's the thing people forget about UPSs, until it fails !.

Some UPS's may protect for only ten minutes or so...
but if your system is 5 years old...it's time to replace the battery.
Three- four years is the typical life.
