Default USB Card and Front Ports

I have an older PC that has USB 1.1 on board. A USB 2.0 PCI card has
been put in the machine for the faster transfers, but it has been
difficult to train my niece and nephews to use the new rear ports
instead on the two hand ports in front.

The USB card has four outfacing ports, and one internal one. Given that
one of the outfacing ports is broken, can I solder a pin header to two
of the ports on the card (internal and broken) and re-route the front
ports to that?

Should work fine. Just be sure to wire them properly so you dont end up
shorting out the power.

Yes, but if the PC is a really old OEM, it might have a
ribbon instead of round USB cable that would need replaced.

Another alternative might be getting them a USB2 hub so
there are a lot of ports more conveniently placed.
