Default Utter DVD confusion.

Is there any significant difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?
Do new DVD burners recognize all DVD formats?
My DVD player playes DVD+R, but not DVD-R. Also, a stand-alone
DVD burner could not read or burn CD-Rs.

Who are these DVDforum(DVD-R) & DVDalliance(DVD+R), and why do they
support 2 different formats when no one cares and blue ray and HD are
out?
Why are there no CD+Rs?

Whats the deal with speeds? I see all are 16x now. A spindle
of 100 DVD+Rs 4X is selling in NYC for $19.99; but 16X for $24.99.

Interestingly, my CD-R burner cannot burn CD-Rmusic, but the DVD burner
can.

Yes.

Yes on that question. Support for DVD-RAM varys,
and some will read that format but not write it too.

And the cheap ones dont handle the latest formats like Blueray either.

That isnt unusual, and its commonly seen with standalone DVD systems.

Because thats how things developed.

Because thats how things developed.

And we are seeing that same terminally stupid format wars with blueray and HD too now.

Because that terminal stupidity happened after that.

No they arent. Maybe you mean the burners.

You can get those a lot cheaper than that.

And that.

Yeah, tho some DVD burners cant burn at the full speed the CDR media can do.

Some. Follow the "see also links"

Most.

That happens sometimes. Newer ones tend to support more formats.

You might consider looking for a firmware update.

The almighty dollar.

The DVD+R format was developed in 2002.
The Cd-R format was developed in 1988. Perhaps the dvd+ people thought
the cd market settled.

Maximum burn rate, and different dyes. A 1xDVD rotates 3X faster than a
1X CD. CDR top out at about 52X before the disc wobbles too much to be
read properly. So don't expect much faster DVD drives.

Cause speed is a premium.

Again, look for a firmware update.
