wondering if this ram would work with my hp zd8000 laptop and if it was the
best I could get? I don't want to run two modules either. I just want one
in the comp because I've heard this hp zd8000 had trouble running more than

The thing is, the 915 mobile chipset supports DDR2-400 and
DDR2-533, and laptops are generally not overclocking platforms.
Buying the ZD8000B doesn't make any sense, because you cannot
take advantage of DDR2-667 as far as I know - it will only

sticks pictured, for the sale of unbuffered RAM. That is how skewed

Hey Paul. I just bought that ram from newegg. It should be here Tuesday. I
am going to test it for a while and then consider buying another gig of it
so I can have 2 gig in my laptop. But I am wondering if so much more ram
will make my laptop even hotter than it gets now and I am wondering if I
would see any real difference in performance in my laptop with Windows XP on
it?

I do alot of music editing and map making for my half life games. That
mapping sure takes up alot of resources, so I thought more ram would help
there. But I have doubts whether this laptop works well with 2 gig of ram.

These are the power numbers for three memory products:

You'll notice that the power is not doubling, even though the amount
of RAM doubles between each row in the table. I don't think you
have too much to worry about.

In terms of the power the RAM uses, it is not a constant with time.
The RAM has many "cycle types". Most of the time, the RAM executes
an "idle" cycle, which takes not much power at all. Certain other
cycles, which change the RAM, take more power.

But to change the RAM, that takes effort from the CPU. The CPU will
contribute more waste heat to the laptop, than the RAM will. The CPU
dominates in terms of heat. Just maintaining the contents of RAM
(all those "idle" cycles) doesn't cost much at all. Remember,
that when your laptop is "asleep" with the lid closed and not plugged
into the wall, it is saving the contents of RAM for you. Does it get
hot then ?
