Default Best Spam / Phishing Filter

Hello people aim in charge of looking after a small network of people all
using oe6 ....... and complaining of spam and letters from banks . Could
anyone recommend a client side solution to my problem??? Something that
plugs into oe6? to filter this crap

If they are all getting their mail from one place in your network, (I
suspect an Exchange server in that case), then that would be the best
place to filter all this stuff (in that case I recommend using
spamassassin, that will tag spam and phishing alike, combined with the
Exchange sink available -- all free/open source).
If the server is *nix based then it should even be easier to install
spamassassin.

If the people are all using individual accounts from their workstations
then you might want to have a look at the many filters available. I
personally have not messed with client filters for OE so I don't know
which of the ones available is best; I tend to stick with server-side
filtering at all times as it's just MUCH easier to administer and
control. I'd even be tempted to make a gateway for them to use (gateway
gets mail from Internet, clients get mail from gateway) in the case of
all separate accounts, and filter on the gateway in a central location.

For client filters, Google brings up some immediate hits (most if not
all free), among others spambully, spambutcher, spamfighter, spam filter
express....

HTH

Banks don't send letters. Phishers send fake email that Looks like it is
from a bank.

Upgrade all users to IE7 as soon as possible. NOW@!

This won't stop the spamming/phishing mails :P
(also not very user friendly to teel the users to use something they
aren't used to.. if you are going to do -that- I'd say move away from OE
entirely, anyway, and use something that has built-in filtering. Might
be a good idea anyway! OE is only something I'd use myself if anything
else is prohibited by company policy OR if the users are sooooo used to
it the whining about changed features (they don't read help files) would
drive me nuts ;) )

I like Seamonkey, but some people need to change gradually.

The best solution is a good travel budget and a box of bullets. Once 50
or 100 spammers show up murdered in an identical manner, the profits might
not seem so promising.

Otherwise, it's just a race condition.

This is why I do spam-filtering in a central location if at all
possible. Spammers get ahead, update one thing on one system and all the
clients using it will be up to speed with the new condition.
