Default HELP. Windows file names changed

Hello,

While trying to install Windows updates on Windows XP, I got a pop-up
from Windows saying that my Windows file names have been changed. I am
quite concerned that I have been infected with a trojan horse. What
other than some malicious software/trojan horse could cause essential
file names, within the Windows XP operating system be changed? Thanks.

Chris H.
