Default Amplifying a Laptop Lid Antenna Signal

I have a friend with a laptop with an internal antenna.
He is in a commercial building somewhat away from the router.
Signal and connection are there. He would like to improve his
reception.
Any ideas ? Reflective antennas for the laptop lid based antenna ?
OS is Windows Xp .

USB Wi-Fi adapter with directional antenna. Hawking makes one that
reportedly works well.

Depends on the electrical circuits.. I use this
http://www.netgear.com/Products/Powe...s/WGXB102.aspx
plug into the router and a wall plug, and at another location, plug in the
other part and you have an instant access point networked to the first
device (Available in various places and online, I get em at Staples for
$109)

54 MBPS WALL-PLUGGED WIRELESS RANGE EXTENDER KIT

54 MBPS WALL-PLUGGED WIRELESS RANGE EXTENDER KIT
WGXB102
Wall-Plugged form factor for the Wireless Range Extender

Sleek silver casing

Ability to have wireless Internet access originate from any power outlet in
the home, with no visible cables

Receive Wireless Internet Access from any Power Outlet in Your Home

As home networking continues to spread and evolve at rapid speed, some users
find that their wireless router does not reach all corners of their home, or
that they would like to have their wireless network originate from a point
of their choosing, rather than be tethered to the point where the Internet
enters their home. Other users would rather have a wireless network where no
product is on the floor, and no cables are visible at all.

The WGXB102 allows the user to have their wireless network originate from
the middle of their home, or from even the furthest extremity, with no
cables visible. The kit consists of the XE102 Wall-Plugged Ethernet bridge
and a WGX102 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender. The XE102
connects to an existing wired or wireless router from any vendor, and the
WGX102 can be plugged into any electrical outlet to create an area of
wireless access.

Novel

Plug the XE102 into a wired or wireless router from any vendor, and then
plug the WGX102 into any power outlet at your desired location to provide
wireless access where desired.

Attractive

A new wall-plugged form factor allows the user to have a full wireless
network without any visible Ethernet cables, and without any floor or desk
space occupied. The sleek platinum casing blends well into any home décor.

Lots of luck ,

the router is actually located in a seperate building so do not know
if it is on the same circuit .

thanks

Doesn't actually have to be on the same circuit (as in breaker), just on the
same phase off the transformer.... Depending on where you live, there can be
multiple buildings/places off one transformer tap, but in others, there can
actually be several for one building..

Usually (not always, but a quick test and lets you know if you can investige
further), are both buildings off the same electric meter? If only one
electric meter for both buildings, then most likely they are on the same
leg/phase/etc.. Another quick test is if there is one breaker panel
servicing both areas, and if you turn off the main breaker (aside from
upsetting the clocks making them flash 12, and po'ng off people), that's
usually a good sign that they are on the same circuit/phase/leg/etc...
