Default AQL & networking

A friend of mine has a PC at home with wireless broadband. His ISP is
AOL. He has just bought a new WiFi laptop and wants to be able to
access the internet via his existing service. Does he have to install
AOL on the laptop to do so, and if not, what settings does Internet
Explorer need to access the service?

Many Thanks
