Default Belkin router recovery to factory default?

tried to setup a 4 port belkin wireless router as an access point only,
to connect to another wireless router, it took the change, changed its
IP to 198.168.2.254 but now I cant see the belkin at all via the
maintenance page address

tried the reset at the back but no luck, is there any way to get the
danged thing back to factory default if you cant see the maintenance
screen?

fwiw, this Belkin unit has been a real headache,

You're supposed to be able to hold the reset button down for 30 seconds or
more for the router to reset back to factory defaults. If that doesn't work,
then you may have to use the Admin of the router and set it back yourself.
If neither one of them do not work, then you might want to slam the router
up against the wall and see if that will do it for you. :)

Any particular reason to not disclose the model number of your Belkin
nightmare?

Stomp and hold the reset button for at least 15 seconds. The more the
better.

What happens is that if you had read the destructions that came with
your unspecified model Belkin router, you would have discovered that
the access point mode disables the web config interface. Put it in
access point mode and you lose control of the device. Brilliant
design work.

However, all is not lost (after you reset it back to defaults). You
can convert any wireless router as an access point by simply:
1. Setup the IP address to something that is accessible from your PC.
For example, if your router is at 192.168.1.1, then setup the Belkin
for 192.168.1.2.
2. Disable the DHCP server.
3. Connect an ethernet cable from a LAN port on your wired router to
a LAN port on the Belkin.
4. Ignore the WAN port on the Belkin. It's not used.
