Default Connected to hotspot, but browser acts like it isn't

I've got a built in Broadcom wireless card in the laptop. I can find
wireless networks, and even connect to them. Problem is that my
browser, ftp program don't think I'm connected to the wireless network!
Is there any troubleshooting to do?

Christine
