Default Connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspot

When I connect to a free wi-fi hotspot using my laptop my firewall
asks me if I trust the network. I click yes since I want to use the
connection but the more I think about it, aren't all my shares
available to anyone accessing that same hotspot. If so is there a way
to not share any of my files without having to unshare each of my
folders.

Thanks,
Pete

Rather than doing the seperate shares on each folder, can you just turn off
file and printer sharing? (and then turn it back on when at home)

You should check no. I do all the time. I am still able to do the things
I want, outbound, and still able to configure the firewall to allow certain
things to happen inbound.

Details vary a lot depending on the interface semantics of the nameless
firewall you are using. Using Symantec, I set "untrusted" for my work
network.
