Digital fax

I'm wondering if anyone here has ever succeeded in receiving/sending a
fax via GSM networks? It looks like that most of the GSM cellphones
support the feature of digital fax, does anyone here knows how to use
it? can I use a GSM mobile phone to receive a fax from a landline fax
machine?

I just realized that the normal landline systems could support only
analog fax
