Default Dropped Connection (Wireless)

I have a netgear router, with a usb stick attached
downstairs, signal strength is fine, but the signal drops when using usenet,
the transfer rate goes up to 480kb (max for 4mb connection) but drops after
around 5 minutes. The signal strength is still fine and windows says I am
connected, but only a reboot will get it back again. When surfing the net
and the like it never drops, strange, I have it on auto as the router and
stick can both handle b &g would it help if I set it to one or the other?

StayAlive Pro
