Default no Net, but good connection and signal

Even though WinXP Wireless connection box says I'm connected when I open IE
or FireFox browsers I get "page cannot be found". My hardware is a Dell
Inspiron 8600 laptop with a PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 mini PCI card and Linksys
WRT600N router. All drivers for my laptop have been updated. After spending
an hour with Linksys tech support I am still unable to connect wirelessly,
but my wired cable connection works fine. Any suggestions would be great
because I am really fed up with this $200 WiFi router purchase which for 2
days now has not worked. Below are 2 IPconfig results, wired and wireless.

Cleaning up the double spaced mess.

Well, if these are connected to the same router, you apparently have a
mess of static IP's pre-installed in the TCP/IP configuration. The
lack of a DHCP server for the wireless config is the obvious clue.

Go to the control panel, find the Network configs, find the wired and
wireless adapter, right click, select properties, then TCP/IP, and set
EVERYTHING for DHCP server assigned addresses. When done, your wired
and wireless results for IPCONFIG should have identical IP's (except
for the IP address). If DHCP doesn't renew, run:
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
(wait about 10 seconds)
IPCONFIG /RENEW

Incidentally, it looks like you have the wireless IP address set for
the same IP as the router, which isn't going to work.

Ok, let me just say first that you are a genius ! Your instructions were
clear and correct !
Please, could you recommend a good book so that I could become familiar with
all these terms, because I really have no idea what half this stuff
means..... Subnet mask, default gateway, DHCP ?? etc.

Thanks so much........ I'm going to send you what I can for helping
me........

Nope. My IQ is insufficient (135?). However, I am sneaky, devious,
evil, never follow instructions, and have been doing this for a long
time. What you did was the right thing. You supplied NUMBERS instead
of the usual prose. You also supplied what you were working with and
a good description of what was failing. That's actually fairly
unusual in this newsgroup as many of the questions are seriously
deficient in both the description and the numbers.

Thanks. They weren't all that clear as I was semi-collapsed in my
palatial office after a 2 hour exercise walk with some friends. It's
amazing how lack of oxygen improves my diagnostic skills.

Ummm... no, I can't. I don't read such books any more. I learned
that stuff perhaps 15 years ago. There's not much to it. You should
be able to find something on the topic on the internet. No need for
an entire book on the subject. Just search Google for "networking
basics" and you should find something useful. Bug me if you can't
find (or understand) anything.

Money is always welcome. It helps support my decadent and lavish
lifestyle.
