After seeing your suggestions, I tried writing my own tutorial but failed.
Can an ipod freeware mp3 expert help us by "fixing" what's wrong with this
tutorial below for ipod touch and iphone users on the Windows XP PC?

0. I read the tutorial for WinSCP on the ipod touch on a Windows XP PC at:

http://limitededitioniphone.com/wind...cp-with-iphone

Note: I was unsure what this sentence below meant, so I skipped that
step (does it matter?)
"make sure you have ssh and bsd subsystem installed from
installer".

1. I downloaded and install WinSCP freeware onto my Windows XP PC:
http://winscp.net/eng/download.php

2. On the ipod touch, I found my IP address to be 192.168.1.2:
ipod touch: Settings > Wi-Fi > MY_NETWORK_NAME > MY_IP_Address

3. I started WinSCP & filled out the "WinSCP Login" form as follows:
C:\My Programs\Ipod\WinSCP\WinSCP.exe
Host name = 192.168.1.2
Port number = 22
User name = root
Password = alpine
Private key file = <blank>
File protocol = SCP

4. Then I pressed the "Login" button in WinSCP.
I get the root@192.168.1.2 error:
"Network error: Connection timed out."
Where I can either press "OK" or "Reconnect" no matter what I do.

QUESTIONS:
a. The original tutorial implies we need something called SSH subsystem.
How do we install SSH subsystem on a Windows XP PC?
b. The original tutorial implies we need something called BSD subsystem.
How do we install BSD subsystem on a Windows XP PC?
c. The original tutorial uses a password of "alpine".
How do we figure out what our ipod touch password is?
d. The original tutorial is for an iPhone.
Does this tutorial work for an ipod touch?

Since I couldn't get WinSCP freeware to work, I tried the other suggested
freeware. Here is the uncompleted tutorial I hope experts here can fix up
so that it works better for all of us newbies.

1. Download and install iPhoneList on your Windows XP PC:
http://code.google.com/p/iphonelist/

iPhoneList is a Windows-based folder browser for your iPhone.
iPhoneList supports copying files to and from the iPhone
(Drag and drop to iPhone), as well as basic file-management functions
for the iPhone itself (create folder, delete files and folders).

Click on "iPhoneList.0.9.8.85.Standalone.exe" to extract to a folder:
08/14/2007 04:02 AM 35,147 COPYING.txt
01/05/2008 09:37 PM 1,547 iPhoneLinks.config
01/05/2008 09:37 PM 8,343 iPhoneList.config
09/18/2007 03:16 PM 249,856 iPhoneList.exe
09/18/2007 03:16 PM 32,768 Manzana.dll
08/21/2007 05:47 PM 550 README.txt

2. Download and install iPhoneFS on your Windows XP PC:
http://code.google.com/p/iphonefs/

iPhoneFS is a small service/app based on WinFUSE that allows you to see
the iPhone as a drive in Windows explorer, or in any Windows
application.
iPhoneFS works by using the AFC service on the iPhone and mapping it to
CIFS server functiions, making you iphone seem like a network drive.

Click on iPhoneExplorer.1.0.2795.41331.zip to extract to a folder:
08/27/2007 11:57 PM 24,576 Interface.dll
08/27/2007 11:57 PM 28,672 iPhoneDriveControl.exe
08/27/2007 07:00 PM 1,779 iPhoneDriveControl.exe.config
08/27/2007 11:57 PM 24,576 iPhoneFS.dll
01/05/2008 09:37 PM 0 log.txt
08/27/2007 11:57 PM 32,768 ManzanaLocal.dll
08/27/2007 07:00 PM 24,576 MicroKernel.dll
08/27/2007 07:00 PM 20,480 NamedPipe.dll
08/27/2007 07:00 PM 159,744 PortalSMB.dll

3. Install iTunesMobileDevice.dll into the "iPhoneDriveControl.exe"
directory.

I doubleclicked on "iPhoneDriveControl.exe" and got the warning dialog:

Fatal Error!
You are missing iTunesMobileDevice.dll!
Do you want to locate a copy?
Yes No

When I pressed the "Yes" button, I got a nice browser dialog asking:
"Select a iTunesMobileDevice.dll File"
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\

When I selected the "iTunesMobileDevice.dll" file in that directory,
the program copied that dll into the directory containing the
iPhoneDriveControl.exe executable I had clicked on. Kewl.

Then a dialog box pops up saying:
iPhoneExplorer
2008-01-05 09:45:18 StartServer: --------- Start of Trace ---------
2008-01-05 09:45:18 StartServer: Waiting for iPhone to connect
2008-01-05 09:45:19 phone_Connect: iPhone connected, starting CIFS
Server
2008-01-05 09:45:26 mapDrive: Found drive 'I:', mapping it...
2008-01-05 09:45:28 mapDrive: Ok,'I:' is pointing at your iPhone!

3. Look for the ipod touch in your Windows XP "My Computer":
My Computer > iphonedrive on 'iphonedrive' (I:)

At this point, I tried copying files onto the now-mounted ipod touch
but I kept getting an error that the files copied could not be found.

4. So I tried clicking on "iPhoneList.exe" which brought up a GUI.
But, I didn't know what to do next. Do you?

QUESTIONS:
a. Once the ipod touch is mounted as a disk, why can't I slide files
into it (such as SharePod) without getting a read error?
b. Can we execute programs such as SharePod freeware on the now mounted
iphone touch? Should SharePod go in a top-level directory or should the
SharePod files be spread out at the ipod touch root level?
c. Can someone take what I wrote and add the next few steps to get both
an MP3 song from the Windows PC to the ipod touch and an executable
such as SharePod onto the ipod touch?
