He probably means Access Connections. My own experience is that Access
Connections is quite good, better in general than Windows, but it
wouldn't hurt to try removing it (if installed) to see if that helps.
In addition to helping us with clearer information on what you mean by
"drops", when your connection "drops" try running the script at
<http://wireless.wikia.com/wiki/Fast_Fixes_to_Wi-Fi_Problems#DHCP_isn.27t_working>
and post the exact and complete output here.

That has also been my experience when I had Windows XP on my T42p (and the
little time I have played with it on the X41).

Thanks, that looks very interesting. I will have a look at that tonight.

We run a moderately loaded 'g/b' lan. (Usually that's an iBook, this
600E with linksys 'b' card, an R31 (Prism chip) and an HP6130 (with god
only knows what chip). We impose MAC authentication for access. Friend
with a T42 visited. We plugged in his MAC address but T42 was unable to
connect. Turned off the R31 and 600E. T42 connected OK. Too many
variables to draw any firm conclusions but symptoms pointed to T42 not
playing well with 'b' machines in the 'sandbox.'
Didn't catch the name on the TP42's wireless manager but it used 'radio
buttons' to select between networks -- didn't look like anything I've
seen on other XP machines.

Well, both the T42p and X41 are b/g machines, so this may not be the problem
I am experiencing.

Doubtful -- my guess(tm) would be problems with MAC filtering, which is
too useless and problematic to be worth doing.

You coud try downloading the backlevel version of Access Connections to
see if that helps.
I am using IBM Access Connections version 3.71 on several thinkpads and
all connected simultaneously at 11Mbs and 54Mbs... to a linksys wag54g
with no issues...
