Compliments on wanting to establish and open and free "hotspot", but may I
suggest adding a captive portal in the mix?
ZoneCD is free:

I have an open and free "hotspot", but it is controlled through a CP.
Unfortunetly, it is a good idea to have some level of control before you are
an open pipe for spamming or a cop shows up wanting to know why child
pornography is being downloaded from your public IP.
My property is adjacent to a park, so I let people use my pipe through a CP.
Even when you are willing to share, you'd be surprised at the amount of
attempted juvenile behavior that goes on (strobing, probing, attempting to
run services, etc) by dorks that can't get girlfriends. I also filter out
downloading of all pornography. Not that I'm "against it", but if someone
wants to download porn then they can do it on their own dime...
