TeleCIS Wireless Inc has begun shipments of its 2 x 2 MIMO WiMAX SoC to
customers after successful productization and interoperability testing
with leading basestation vendors.
The TCW 1620 is claimed to be the only WiMAX ASIC on the market with
dual receive and dual transmit support in a single ASIC. With this
multi-channel architecture, the company claims to deliver up to 15dB of
additional performance as compared to other products currently on the
market, delivering up to 2½ times the range for self installed CPEs.
The performance is delivered while maintaining the lower power
consumption of any WiMAX chip on the market, under 300mw for the
complete baseband/MAC SoC operating with both channels. This extended
range coupled with the lower power consumption enables portable USB
devices and PC cards based on WiMAX fixed/portable specifications.
The company will use this architectural foundation for its WiMAX mobile
product, the TCW 2720. WiMAX mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile
phones require performance and power consumption levels that can only
be achieved with multi-antenna architectures. To meet these needs, the
company¡¦s next-generation WiMAX mobile ASIC will incorporate 2 x 2
MIMO, spatial multiplexing, diversity combining and beamforming,
techniques that together will result in up to 15dB performance above
the WiMAX mobile specifications in addition to supporting interference
rejection. This is achieved while keeping power consumption under
250mw.
The TCW 2720 will target WiMAX Mobile Wave 2 certification and is
expected to be employed in small devices such as mobile phones, PDAs
and portable multimedia players.
