wireless router Motorola SGB 960 sold from comcast
Does Motorola SGB 960 have print functions?
If I (actually my sister) were to get a wireless print router, what
would you recommend? She would just need to remove the Motorola one and
replace it with the new one and do necessary driver installation right?

I could find no info on any such Motorola wireless router. Currently,

The USB port is strictly for configuration and not for a print server.

I usually recommend seperate boxes for seperate functions. In this
case, your unspecified printer will determine what will work. All I
know at this time is that it is a USB interfaced printer. I suggest
you check on the printer manufacturers web site for compatible USB
print servers. If it's an All-in-One type of printer, be sure that it
supports ALL the functions, and not just the printer part.

Wrong. Do not replace the modem/router/wireless. Just add a
(wireless?) print server to the printer.

I learned yesterday - my knowledge level on hardware stuff is basic; I
just inquire as I need to know - that the way the guy from Fry's was
saying on the phone, leading me to think they have come out with a
router with printer server (since he called it wireless print router)
was no the case.

Thanks for the info that I can check on the printer manufacturers web
site for a compatible one. Last night, I tried linksys and found out
the incompatibility with HP OfficeJet 5610. The Idiots at Best Buy
failed to tell me whether the printer I was getting was compatible with
it or not.

Right. For an HP printer, that means an HP JetDirect printer server.

I wasn't telling them about the pricerestriction. In fact, I was
flexible knowing that the later the model, the better things would be.
I made a mistake of falling for my sister's usual acts of *empty*
thriftiness, again; she has no problem wasting money for useless stuff.

Is there any common brand other then HP JetDirect printserver that
would go with this model? HP is sells EW2400 model for $199.99. If
not, I'd rather upgrade the printer (get a later model) than spending
money on the printer server. Linksys was only $99.99.

Yep. It's almost impossible to find a wired or wireless print server
that will work with a USB port, and also can support fax and scan. It
requires that the HP drivers are "network aware" which is not the
case.
The above HP URL has a tab for "related products" which usually has
either and internal or external print server listed, if one is
available. Nothing shown. I don't think it's possible to have all
the functions work over a network with this model.

I just called HP and was told that 6310's built-in wireless printserver
would be for printing only. I think the main feature she would use
would be for printing. If so, 6310 would be fine.
Unless she needs to scan routinely - I'd find that out since I don't
know yet what her new venture is, I'd get her 6310. Otherwise, she
might as well go for 7410, rather than 7310 instead of buying a
separate wireless printserver unit, right?
Oh, as far as usb cable is concerned, why is Dynamex ($31.99 for 6')
much more expensive than Belkin (19.99 for 6')? This I was told that
it's the quality. Is that true?

My point was that Best Buy is a low-price consumer retailer, not a VAR
(value added reseller). At consumer price points there's not enough
margin for real technical training, just superficial knowledge. Real
expertise is expensive.

In my experience, other printer servers can be made to work reasonably
well for printing with HP multifunction devices, but only HP JetDirect
provides full function and full reliability. You may be able to find
one at an affordable price on eBay.

Amazing. I didn't think it could be done, especially if HP's own
print servers wouldn't do it. About $75. Interestingly, all the
supported printers are HP. Hmmm....

I have been in a wild goose chase this morning talking with HP sale
specialist and Fry's people, getting nowhere when making sure what
cables - network cable to connect to the wireless router & usb cable to
connect to PC for scanning - that I would need to buy before I head
onto the highway and take it to my sister's house, located in a very
isolated place.

I see that online vendors are selling it for $75 - $80. Buy.com is
giving free shipping but I am concern after reading the customer
review. Any recommendation which online vendor should use?
