WPC300N linksys vista drivers not accepted in Vista
Hi,
I have been trying to get a linksys WPC300N wireless notebook adapter working on my Acer 9300 laptop.
The problem is the Vista drivers from the Linksys website do not update in windows vista. Vista says:
"The best driver software for your device is already installed"
"Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"
The windows drivers are from 6/21/2006 version 4.82.28.56
The linksys are from 1/27/2007 version v4.102.15.56
The windows drivers do not work with the wpc300n well at all. The native wireless g (Atheros) picks up a signal at 85% and with this card it picks up the same signal at 15%.
As I need the distance and higher speed of the N router I can't use the internal wireless module and need to use an external card.
I contacted Acer and Linksys about this and each said it was not their problem. I called microsoft but since Vista was bundled they refused to help me unless I pay them $59 to talk about it.
It's apparently a vista issue as it insists on using its own drivers for this card.
Anyone have a suggestion of how to force Vista to update a driver?
