You can push GMail to the Blackberry.
I had this running for a while (sorry don't have a reference for you) until
I switched to BIS on Telstra, which IMO is pretty flawless.

You can also use internet access to use the Gmail apps. Point your
browser to m.google.com and download the app. You can get the calendar
and contacts on your blackberry with no blackberry service, just
internet and the Sync app. No BIS crap required.

Thanks for the help. I have have figured out the Gmail service. I also
found out that I can set-up a limited number of email accounts through
the Optu$ BlackBerry web site. It works fine for me and I also found
out that I don't need to get my business email hosted separately.
