Default i-Mate JasJam Questions

Any of you guys got an I-Mate JasJam? If so, what are your views on it?

Seen a couple on Ebay. One of them has in the list of features, some
software that is a "30 day trial". I think that it's the PC connectivity
software that you'd need to connect to it, but am not totally sure.

Thing is, most phones have this software that's free, no trials, etc.
So, I wonder what the go with the I-mate software is. Or does it do more
than PC-phone connectivity?

Also, how does it work with say Outlook or other software, particularly
organiser software?

I have a Palm Zire 71 which looks like it might be on its last legs. So,
I'm looking at another PDA. The I-mate might be a good replacement, but
I need to be able to salary sacrifice it. If I can do it as a PDA or
"tool of trade", then it makes it economically viable.

If it works out to be viable I'll get it connected to NextG, disconnect
my Samsung A501 and flog it on Ebay or whatever, to try and recover some
of the purchase cost which would have to be paid out.

Seems to work fine, except the previous version of ROM on it had
problems with NextG's HSDPA when using PUSH email. If you don't have
an Exchange server pushing out email. it seems fine. I believe the
latest ROM update gets Foxtel as well.

Do you own one? If so, can you explain what the go with this "trial"
software is? If it's equivalent to Nokia's PC Suite or Samsung's PC
Studio which are free with the phone, then why is I-mate charging for
it, and how much does it cost?

I can't seem to find the I-mate website, either. I get taken to what
appears to be the same reseller that I've seen listed on Ebay.

What do you mean by "PUSH" email? I have an email account set up on the
Samsung. I did it to see how it worked. It's just like setting up Eudora
or whatever. It uses the ISP's POP3 and SMTP servers.

Have one now, had another on Telstra too.

Http://www.imate.com is the main site.

It syncs from the desktop with Activesync on XP. There is no cost for
that. Get's the contents of Outlook across. Only with USB cable or BT.
Not over the air.

PUSH email is when you have what looks like a continuous over the air
data connection to a Microsoft Exchange server and emails arrive real
time. You don't need to poll the host. It also syncrhronises contacts,
calendar. You don't really get a chance to specify when they come out,
that's what Telstra had problems with when a voice call was being set
up. That costs money, the server and the data connection. Usually a
corporate solution.

New ones with warranty from somone who will give you a tax invoice are
about $900 on ebay. Few others are used or from lesser known sellers
and are a bit less.
