Default ISP recommendations for ADSL2 with VOIP

Anyone have any recommendations for an ISP providing competitive ADSL2
and VOIP services in Perth?

So far I have dismissed...

Telstra
Optus
Primus
Dodo

And shortlisted...

IINET
TPG

TPG seems to offer the best package ADSL2, 15GB download, free upload,
static IP address for $49.95 (inc of VOIP). They also charge $199.95
for a 4 port wireless hub with VOIP.

IINET offer ADSL2, 2GB peak (12pm to 2am), 4GB offpeak (2am to 12pm),
free upload, dynamic IP address for $39.95 plus $9.95 for VOIP. They
charge $279 for a 4 port wireless hub with VOIP (with no min contract
obligations).

I have seen some negative postings on the support from TPG and the
offshore call centres. I have also seen some negative comments on
IINET too however.

Anyone got some other recommendations or comments?

Thanks.

Dont go with TPG, they dont have any ADSL2 DSLAMS in perth and don't seem
to have any plans to roll them out anytime soon
Fastest you can get from TPG in perth would be 8000k
But if you can live with 8000k and don't need the fast ADSL2 speeds
however, DO go with TPG. I am with them and LOVE their service.

No clue if IINET are any good.

You really need to consider the modem separately unless you arent very capable.

Yep, and they're mostly pretty valid comments.

> I have also seen some negative comments on IINET too however.

The only real problem with iinet is that there system can be pretty mindless.
When for example a number of their customers in my town have all just had
their adsl stop working simultaneously, the ****wits on the other end of the
phone arent allowed to use that as evidence that there is some fundamental
problem in the dslam etc and they want to mindlessly try the crap in the script
to check that your system is configured properly when you ring and complain.

Consider westnet.

Thanks for the replies.

TPG is ruled out then as if I can't get ADSL2 their ADSL offering is
at the same price but with less speed and a smaller download limit
(1.5mbps and 8G.

I checked out Westnet and they do not appear to offer VOIP and the
plan and pricing is not as good as IINET.

Westnet: $39.95 2GB peak (their peak period is 2hrs longer than
IINETs), 2GB offpeak, dynamic IP ($5 for static)

So it is looking like IINET has the best deal currently.

OK, they're significantly worse on support anyway.

You dont have to get it from your broadband ISP, many use a different one.

Are you actually going to use the higher off peak download tho ?

If not its academic.

You dont need a static IP.

I find them fine, adsl is now so reliable that the quirks with
their support arent really more than a minor nuisance in practice.
I just tell them lies about what I have actually tried when I know
that the problem must be outside my system since other iinet
customers are getting the same lack of service at the same time.

Whatever you do....do not go with TPG.
Their service sucks and no 24hr support.

Not that many ISP's with 24 hour support. You could do worse and be
with G-Node and have on going drop outs and down time, Glad I dumped
them earlier in the year and all reports indicate they are getting worse
by the day!

The prompt service is more important, like replying to emails quickly
and answer/solve phone enquiries when their call centre is open.

Hi,

Been with iiNet for years, and strongly recommend them.
I'm about 2-3km from the Maylands exchange, and get around 10mb/sec sync
speed. It's been up to 15 before but not very stable. They have lots of
DSLAMs around.
