LG U880 unlock mods and opinions on Nokia 6110

I realise that this topic has probably been done to death, but I am a
newbie here.

Three have offered me a new 'phone. A Nokia 6110, if I stay with them.
This looks like a nice 'phone for my needs. The GPS being a welcome
addition. Any opinions would be welcome.

Secondly: I wish to unlock my LG U880, so I can pass it on to a friend.
has anyone managed this mod successfully. She plans to use it on the
Vodafone network. Any assistance would be welcome.
