Default Nokia Care Centre gone to shit again

Yesterday I took a friend's mobile to the Nokia Care Centre in
Elizabeth St, Melbourne. The last time I had to take a phone there it
was a 4 hour turn around, this time it has gone back to a 5 to 7 day
turn around.

WTF is going on? This is pathetic!

It appears Nokia have outsourced the Care Centre to a contractor, the
last time they did this I remember similar shitful turn around times.
But when they ran the store they could do the 4 hour repairs so why
can't the lazy bastards do it?

Depends on the model of the phone, the problem reported, the spares in stock
and many other factors

5-7 days is fine

It is a Nokia N73, with the usual audio problems. I bet all the do is
flash the latest firmware after the 5 to 7 days, which I have already
done to the phone in about 15 minutes and give it back and say it is
fixed.

Did you stop to think that they might have an unusually large workload at
the moment? You want to try Roadhound, last time I used them for repairs it
was 5 week turnaround.

We have the same issue in Brisbane, took three weeks to replace the
speaker in a 6070 (they had to send it to Sydney). Yet in 2002 I took in
a broken 7650 - they fixed the backlight and upgraded the software the
same day.

Post it to thier Perth/Morley branch via expess post, even with post transit
times it should shave a few days off, thier shelves were empty when I was
there.

Nearly 3 years ago I sent off a Nokia 6385 for repair (warranty). It
came back to the dealer where I bought it from (they sent it away)
nearly 10 days later and with the "it was water damaged. Non warranty
and also uneconomical to repair".

5 to 7 days sounds like an improvement.

Water damage, you wasted your time even taking it anywhere.

The only hope you have with water ingress is to remove the battery
immediately and disassemble the device yourself ASAP (not just the
housing) and dry it with a hair dryer or similar on low heat. Do not
over heat the boards. Then if you are really lucky there will be no
water damage.

But economically in the commercial sense it is not worth repairing and
pretty much impossible by the time the phone is shipped to a Nokia Care
Centre anyway.

I didn't know that it was water damaged. It just stopped working. And
because it was water damaged Nokia wouldn't repair it under warranty.
