commercial availability of Australia's first end-to-end Telstra Cisco
TelePresence Managed Service solution a unique, immersive 'one-click'
in-person collaboration experience delivered over the Australia-wide Telstra
Next IP(TM) network.
The Telstra Cisco TelePresence solution gives organisations an alternative
to travelling long distances for meetings across Australia or overseas as it
creates an environment for up to 6 people at each end utilising immersive,
purpose built meeting rooms. This gives the experience of feeling you are
sitting across the table from participants at other locations.
It can therefore deliver significant benefits such as improved time
management, cost savings and productivity gains, as well as help reduce
carbon emissions. The new flexibly priced commercial offering announced
today makes it easier for enterprises to access this significant capability,
with Telstra packaging all of the necessary arrangements into a single
managed service agreement.
Mr David Thodey, Group Managing Director, Telstra Enterprise and Government
made the announcement during a presentation in Brisbane where Telstra used
hologram technology to beam Telstra's Chief Technology Officer, Dr Hugh
Bradlow, live into Brisbane from Melbourne to talk at a major function for
senior business executives.
Mr Thodey said the live hologram demonstrated today is a symbol of what will
be available in the future - but today we are already creating 'virtual
meetings' through what we call TelePresence employing sophisticated
equipment from Cisco, with managed end to end services from Telstra and
using the high data speed and capacity of the Telstra Next IP(TM) network.
"Telstra and Cisco can play an important role in today's fast moving
business world, where the need to interact and collaborate with co-workers,
business partners, and customers can be required at a moment's notice, by
bringing people seamlessly together in face-to-face meetings without them
having to be physically present.
"This new Telstra Cisco TelePresence solution will open up many
possibilities as it allows real time and real life interaction between
people in different locations potentially thousands of kilometres apart," Mr

the deployment of Cisco TelePresence as a go to market solution for Telstra,

The Telstra solution, based on Cisco TelePresence, also has the potential to
significantly reduce the costs of travel on the bottom line and on the
environment - a critically important area of business in Australia and
around the world.

Telstra and Cisco are able to design and build customised rooms at each end,
enabling face-toface high-definition images to be transmitted in real-time

The Telstra Cisco TelePresence solution combines high definition audio
quality, interactive technologies and a specially-designed environment to
approximate the feeling of actually being in the same room as participants
in separate locations.
The Telstra Cisco TelePresence solution is easy to use, with users able to
schedule the TelePresence rooms through their Microsoft Outlook calendar.
They can now launch the meeting with a one-click application on the meeting
room handset.
