Default Optus's Tethering Fees for iPhones.

Here's a beauty, and one that Telstra would be proud of.

http://www.theage.com.au/digital-lif...0618-cizn.html

What I don't understand is how can Optus control this "tethering" feature:

"It coincides with today's release of the iPhone 3.0 software update which, for
the first time since the iPhone was released in 2007, enables tethering.

[chomp...]

"The $9.99 fee unlocks the phone's tethering feature and allow customers to use
the data allowance on their iPhone plans to access the internet from a
computer."

"Telstra has not yet announced its tethering policy"

Give it time. It's probably going to gauge consumer reaction to the practice
before it sets its pricing for this "service".

Thing is, if I can "tether" my Moto V9 without any charges how can they justify
slugging iPhone owners for this feature and how do they control the software
that the customers download independant (via iTunes) of the telco?

In all likelihood, via a separate APN.

It'll probably be simple enough to circumvent by jailbreaking your iPhone.

Nope, Telstra is always last with anything. Thats the way massive bureaucracys work.
