Australian incumbent Telstra has said that it has extended the coverage of
its 'NextG' 3G network to more than 100 locations that previously had no
mobile coverage at all, iTWire reports.
Telstra, marking the third anniversary of the launch of its NextG
infrastructure, also revealed that it had installed more than 1,700 NextG
base stations since inaugurating the network.
The most recent areas to receive coverage include Jenolan Caves and Wollombi
(New South Wales), Fergusson and Wadeye (Northern Territory), Manna Hill and
Kingoonya (South Australia), Broadmarsh and Cradle Mountain (Tasmania), Lake
Mountain and Dargo (Victoria), Daintree and Phosphate Hill (Queensland), and
Marble Bar and Sunrise Dam (Western Australia). In addition, the telco has
said that further expansion, as well as upgrades, are planned;
Telstra expects 270 base stations to be installed or improved by June 2010.
