Default Telstra linked to Australia's iPhone launch

From
http://www.news.com.au/business/stor...11-462,00.html

TELSTRA has emerged as the favourite operator to offer the hotly awaited
iPhone.

Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo this week confirmed talks had already begun with
Apple, which plans to launch the handset in Australia next year.

Mr Trujillo said Telstra would be interested in the device if it delivered
an enhanced experience for their customers.

"The answer is simple: yes we'd be interested and we're exploring that
option," he said.

"We've had conversations with Apple and a lot of others and what's
interesting now is that everybody's now responding to the Apple iPhone.

"Almost every supplier has big plans in the next six to 12 months with their
version of an iPhone in response."

The Next G network operates at the rarer 850Mhz frequency and requires
specialised handsets.

Mr Trujillo predicted Apple would produce a compatible iPhone.

"talks had already begun with Apple" - lol, what, they rang them up
yesterday to ask for a price?

Similarly, Telstra Corporation shareholders will soon dump Sol Trujillo, so
as to give them an "enhanced experience"

"and a lot of others" = Telstra will pursue some crap ZTE or LG clone that
works on NEXT-G only.

Oh, but Sol, you will only receive whichever overpriced handset that
Brightstar dictates to you that you need.

hahahah yeah right, or alternatively just sell the existing product to "3",
Voda or Optus. Keep dreaming Sol.

'Hotly awaited' - whatever. More reason to steer clear of Telstra.

The iPhone was a shit attempt to conquer the phone and PDA market in one -
it failed. Dismally.

I was in the US recently and got to have a good play with a relatives
iPhone. He's had it 6 months, cared for it more than his 2 kids and it still
fucked out on him 3 times. Sent back for shit touchsceen sensitivity, poor
resolution, bad battery and other stupid problems.

The iPhone now sits in the draw and has been replaced with a cheaper, more
reliable and more feature packed mobile phone.

Pity Telstra don't actually know anything about what people want - how about
releasing some decent Nokia's and Motorola's.

AT&T operate 3G at 850MHz, don't they? Wouldn't surprise me one bit if,
when Apple finally released a 3G iPhone, it did so at 850MHz.

Nope, you will get your dose of ZTE and LG. Just what Doctor Brightstar
ordered!

If the other carriers were any better, I would switch. But they ALL have
crappy phone selection (especially if you want 3G UMTS). Although if all
you want is a phone with no internet or other crap, the MotoFONE F3 or
whatever it is looks half-decent.

LOL... we don't have iPhone yet?! A neighbour of ours came back from the
US recently with one, and speaks very highly of it. Why wait until they're
available locally - just import one or get one off eBay.

LOL. Why get a crappy 2G GSM version of the iPhone from the USA (with
all it's stupid restrictions and locking to the AT&T network which Apple
enforces with every update) when you can get a 3G version when it is
launched here (after which the yanks will have ironed out most of the bugs).
Plus you won't get warranty here for the USA version and anyone with
Apple hardware experience knows that they are prone to hardware failure.

Why get expensive 3G when you don't want it. I am happy with the
iPhone and my "crappy" 2.5G GSM, and wifi, and an intuitive GUI. I've
been through two firmware updates and now have what I need. A Phone
that works and that takes me half the fime to do what I used to do on
my old phones.

My emac and ibook are still going strong 3 years later and my new imac
hasnt had a moment's trouble.

If you don't want an iPhone, don't get an iPhone. But don't crap on
people that do.
