Default Try parabolics or yagi

Hi there -

That's a tough range to cut in the miles. Your best bet would be Parabolic or Yagi antenna. Go for the best gain you can get - 21dbi parabolic for example.

For a couple of our product options, search for "yagi" or "parabolic" at our shop -

I am Personally using 24db grid arrays for both of my long distance connections, 1 is 2.1km and the other is 9km. I run the APs in B mode only and have no issues even with the limited bandwidth of B mode. Ping times are typically <3ms static (no treaffic) and <15ms loaded.

Try searching for "grid array" they come in 15,17,19,21,24db configurations. The biggest advantage with grid arrays over parabolics is wind resistence.

Regards

Fred

Default Long range in 802.11b

Just to add to that, long haul networks are always better served by setting access point to 802.11b. The reduced bandwidth amounts to higher range.

Add to that 2.4 GHz Yagis or Parabolic antenna + shielded low-loss cables and you got a powerful transmission point.

Default Long range equipmnt

The type of AP and client adaptor you use is just as important as the antenna. With a standard low powered device around 17dBm (50mW) you will only reliably get about 4km with a 24dBi antenna. We use EnGenius/Senao and Ubiquiti who make radios up to 28dBm(600mW) which can give you a 40km bridge line of sight with just 19dBi grids. Go Wireless NZ Ltd can supply all the equipment for this type of link to New Zealand customers.
Cheers, Dale.

Please all do bear in mind that the 100mW transmission power (EIRP) is the maximum legal limit in most countries outside the US. In US it is 200mW.
