Default LMR400?

Where do I get LMR400 from?
I need 15 metres so yobbo.co.nz is out of the question, I am expecting to pay $5 a metre for it.

Any ideas? Someone must sell it.

Its either the one run, or I use a dlink900ap+ in client mode on poe - I do not like the idea of a pc in the roof space.
I know I can get the signal as my big 90cm dish pulls in -28db at the can now its aligned properly.
I have tried this length in rg213 and the pc can detect the ap but the signal percent is like 4% on the pc and 100% at the feed.

Anyone know what a dlink900ap+ goes like in client mode??

I was thinking far too low in price - I know someone who brought 250 metres for $1000 so based my price on that.
Oh well, its either $165 worth of cable, or a $250 access point capable of the full 22MBit at 10km - I know what I must do.

thanks anyways.

Why not puit the AP on the roof behind the dish and run ethernet up to it, I can do outdoor thernet for about $2.00/m and you will reduce your cable length and loss.
As for the PoE hack they are simple fo perform and work well. If you are worried about the cable loss then you could allways put a regulatoer and transformer in. Not the most echonomical but they will work.

Shadow,
Thats exactly what I do on my city node, regulated POE.
I will have to do the same.

Do you know if the client mode in the 900ap+ works ok - is it natted, or just another ip address along the path?

Hi, im just getting into wireless and these forums have been pretty helpfull so far

anyway, i can get RG6 coax for $1.30 a metre. I work for a company that buys a lot of cable and we get about 85% discount.
I believe it is pretty good stuff and usually goes for around 5 bux

Fraz,

Thnks for the offer however i beleive that the problem is not in the quality of the coax but in the capability to handle high frequencey RF. If you can check the cable specs for us and let us know what the loss per meter is at 2.4ghz that would be handy.

Regards
Andrew

I have no idea what the loss is sorry
The writing printed on the cable reads:
TFC-T10 TFC 32360 MASER RG6 SKY DIGITAL SATELLITE APPROVED
So its the same stuff they use from dish to reciever.

I can get 2 types of the stuff, both have the same spec but one is thicker, and made in the US
We use either stuff at work. The thicker is easier to get into hard to reach places cos you can bend it to shape first.
I think its pretty low loss as the last time we used it was a 304m run (a whole fuking roll) from one end of a factory to the other for their ControllNET system.

rg6 is no good for this application because it has a characteristic impedance of 75 ohm, not 50 ohm

I wouldn't reccommend using RG6 for any of this stuff. First of all, good luck finding connectors and second RG6 is 75 ohm coax and this wireless stuff wants 50 ohms. on the lower frequencies ( 500 MHz and down) this would be ok at short lengths. but at 2.4 ghz, Anything will mess up that signal. I mean ANYTHING. don't try to cut corners when it comes to your antennas and cable. trust me. I'm a young pup compared to alot of you guys out here, but I have been a readio tech for almost 10 years and I have seen all kinds of wiedr things happen at those high frequencies.

Also, I can get LMR400 for about .50/FT

Default Cables

It is not good to use anything else appart from cable that is made for 2.4GHz and above. RG213 is designed for about 900MHz. RG6 is 75ohm which will burn out your radio over time. You need to use a 50ohm 400 style cable that has about -0.22dB loss per metre at 2.4GHz. If it is under 3 metres you can get away LMR195 and that is cheap enough, even in New Zealand.

Cheers
Dale

Any GOOD MICROWAVE (50 ohm) cable will work fine either by Times Microwave, Talley, Commscope, Andrew etc. all of them publish loss/frequency so you can compare them side by side. Times Microwave LMR400 is very popular because it is cheap and plentiful. However the best thing to do is a POE solution with a compartment antenna.
