Default WTB: Two 1RU rackmount cases

Hi,

I am colocating two servers, and for this I need two 1U rackmount cases.

It is to be taking an ATX motherboard with a Socket 370 CPU. No PCI cards. Is it possible to get this into a 1RU rackmount case, and if so does anyone have one?

Cheers, George

yes it should fit.
quite often you see 1U cases on tardme, they go for 300ish (less than half of a brand new procase one)

It wouldnt be hard to DIY one, but the costly part is the PSU

I've been keeping my eye out for a 1U case for some time, but usually when they're available on tardme is usually when I dont have the money for them (bloody murphy!)

Not really suitable for colocation due to the cost per rack unit, but if you're after rack mount cases for your own racks, the Procase CRS-9008 is a good choice. These are 5U cases with eight 5.25"/one 3.5". Cost around $299 with an ATX PSU, a little more for EPS12V, and will take a redundant PSU if necessary. The rack kits are about another $110 IIRC as these can be used in different arrangements.

I have two ready for rack mounting (Just waiting on the rack, hopefully early in the new year), and one on wheels.

Only issue with them is the cheap plastic doors on them.

I spent a long time evaluating my options, and in the end it was much cheaper for me to get a larger rack (Only a few $ difference in price) than to spend a lot more per PC on a 1U or 2U case locally. They can be had cheap overseas, but postage made them impractical.

Noise of the 1Us makes them a no-go for home use IMO - 40mm fans have to scream to move any decent amount of air.

It's not for home - it's going into Level 48 of the sky tower in fact.

But I have found a way I can get two low-profile desktops to fit in a 2U space.

You see, the space is 80cm deep, and the cases I have got hold of are 37cm deep. This means that although they are both effectively 2U in height (but not rackmount), they can both fit into a single 2U space.

That does still mean I am paying for 3RU, but that is understandable due to the added difficulty of rackmounting non-rackmount computers.

Cheers George

Cool, but I think I might go for a dedicated server in the US ... soon.
