Gidday,

How about a "Whos Online" module. So when you can see that there are 2 members and 5 guests online you can go see who the members are. Maybe even a in-website chat facility?

I know we have ICQ, MSN, IRC - do we really need another?

Use something like this: http://cgiirc.sourceforge.net/ to access the IRC Chat is my opinion. I don't like java applet on webpages (no flames please) but I believe CGI is fine and doesn't need user permissions (won't scare panicky windows users due to virus risks (even if it's not possible, they don't know that and won't want to load it)).

There are plenty of CGI programs available for IRC.

Agreed 3rd party java solutions, not a solution, a gateway.

There are many 3rd party java solutions available, but then again they arent reliable.
