Default encrypt personal files

Hi all,

This may be a regular question, so i apologise if it is.

what is a good encryption program to use on my personal pc at home?

and being a tech savvy individual, how woould i easily check this?

some options i googled are:

Securestar: DriveCrypt
Yoys: Encrypted Briefcase Personal
CpLab : file encryption xp.
and some othes.

For Mail, i.e. GNUPG / Enigmail / Thunderbird.
For your files, i.e. http://www.truecrypt.org (if you're using Windows).

There are some good options out there, and the best choice depends
a bit on what you want to accomplish. If you want to encrypt files
and data on disk, some of the ones you have mentioned work well.
Personally, I use BestCrypt from Jetico, since it allows me access
to the data both when I boot into Linux or Windows on my dual-boot
machine.

I have a more involved article in my blog here, which lists some
of the advantages of this type of solution.
