We have wireless hot spots that users can access via a specific profile. this profile allows them access to our domain. this profile autoconnects when in range. the question I have is this... If the user IS NOT logged on to the computer will the profile auto connect to the hotspot if in range. Why do I ask this? Because we have an issue where users cached domain credentials become corrupt and they can not log on to their laptops. These users can not be given the local admin credentials. we are searching for a way to access the computers remotely so we can assist with "re-caching" their credentials. Thanks for your thought and time.

Hi All,

First of all I have tried searching all over the place and not found a suitable answer yet. So hopefully somebody here can help.

The requirement
I live just across the street from a friend and we would like to link our networks but keep our own internet connections seperate.

Semi Solution
I have found many solutions where we can create a wireless bridge but all only detail 1 ISP connection.

My thoughts
We need some sort of semi WAN configuration with our own DCHP servers in each house and proxy servers to manage which machines and users go through which proxy server. I work in a multi national company with such a setup but do not want it to be so complicated.

Is there an easy solution to this problem?

Thanks for any help.

How would this work without a router? I have heard of ad hoc networks but I have never set one up. If I set up an ad hoc network so the laptop and printer can talk to each other will that affect the internet access of the laptop?

If this is not the way to do it I am open to any suggestions that are posted. I am somewhat computer savvy if that helps.

Hello all! I joined this forum just to have this question answered. I have been all over the net and can't seem to find the same answer twice. HELP! I just moved to a loft and they provide free wifi in the common room on every floor.Since the building is made of thick brick the signal does not travel well. I can get the wifi in my living room and sometimes in my dining room, but never in my office. What do I need to buy to boost the signal so it's everywhere in my apartment? Here are some things that might help:
1. The wi-fi is password protected.
2. I do have access to the routers (but couldn't add anything to them)
3. I have a Macbook Pro if that makes any difference.
Thanks so much!!!

Hi. I was wondering how data is encrypted using WPA. Simply creating a virtual device in monitor mode, I can log what's in the air, and see the beacon frames and so on. But I can't see the real data transferred: no TCP, no HTTP, nothing. Just IEEE 802.11 frames. Where is the data? How does WPA works? When there's no protection, I can see the traffic normally...

Another question is: why authentication with the router? How does it work when there's no protection? And when encryption is on? Why couldn't I simply send "waves" in the air (wireless data) without authenticating first with the router?

I know these are more than just one question, I'm doing a research and I need to fix these points.

Thanks in advance... :)

Hi I really hope someone can help me, this has been driving me nuts.

I have a wireless network at home which has two desktops, a laptop and an iPhone connected to it. Last month the wireless started to become intermittent and all devices lost connectivity. I messed around, swapped out the router for an old one and then back again, reset everything and the wireless came back.. but only for the laptop and iPhone, both of which work flawlessley.

So I know that the router is broadcasting because two devices and see it and connect, and I know that the desktops wireless cards are working because they can both see my neighbours variours networks and report nothing wrong.

I've tried everything, flushed the ip4 and 6 settings, changing channels, updating firmware, reseting everything again but the two desktops can't even see the SSID.

So, to summerise, laptop and phone can see and connect to wireless without a problem. Two desktops can't see it at all but can see other netorks!!!

What on earth is going on?

Thanks for your help.

Hello all,

I have a question for wireless networking engineers working on any vendor equipment, specially Cisco.

It's known that SSID supports only one vlan
but is there any way to make a single SSID have multiple Vlans?

This will be needed in the case of when a company have multiple departments, each departments is assigned to a different vlan, and we need all of these departments use the same SSID.

I've read about a similar case in which we can use a radius server which is needed to authenticate users and assign them to their vlans based on their authentication. But will this allow the SSID to have multiple vlans as the same time? I mean will this make 3 users from 3 different vlans for example to use the same SSID and connect to the wireless network simultaneously?

Thanks in advance

I have received an AIR-LAP1131AG-N-K9, a lightweight AP, but have been advised it is possible to change this back to Autonomous so you don't have to use a controller.
However, firstly I am unable to log into the AP??? I have read it is possible to use Cat5 ethernet cable (Because I do not have a console port, I am using a Mac) and am trying to get in with the default IP of 10.0.0.1 but it doesn't appear to be working?
Does anyone have any advice?
I was also advised for me to convert the LAP AP back to Autonomous I need to change the IOS to an earlier release using a TFTP. I do not have any images stored anywhere and do not have a TFTP server. This unit is brand new out of the box, so can anyone please point me in the right direction?
THanks, Ian
