Default Help on cell phone repeaters, frequencies, gsm and cdma

I am looking for a way to boost the cell phone service at my office. We are in the basement level (concrete walls and ceiling, half windows on one side). Just outside the office (near downtown minneapolis), I get full service. In the basement, I either have one bar or no signal. Is a cell phone repeater the best way to go to boost the reception? If so, what kind? What about those 6" external antennas that plug directly into your cell phone? Do those work at all?

I have T-Mobile service ( i believe the frequency is 1900mhz), and use a t-mobile dash. Also another guy in the office has T-Mobile and uses a Samsung Blast, and another has Qwest with a Nokia phone. What frequency does Qwest use? Would we need a dual band cell phone repeater? What is the difference between gsm and cdma?

Lightbulb Signal boosters- repeaters

Look into Wilson Electronics... all of their signal boosting products meet FCC regulations. One of Wilson's dealers has a very good page on their site where they compare Wilson VS The Competition

A dual band kit would be best for any company (I'm looking into one for purchase) because it works for all providers except Nextel.

Unwiredsignal.com is acutally as I write engineering a system for my bosses' mansion.

Do your research before you make a purchase call the company and talk to a representative ask all the questions you need to before you make a decision. I did it, you should too.

Hope this helped
I.T.

Default Cdma & gsm

CDMA
Code-Division Multiple Access.

CDMA is a digital wireless technology. It is a general type of technology, implemented in many specific technologies. But the term "CDMA" is also commonly used to refer to one specific family of technologies (IS-95 and CDMA2000) used in the US by Sprint and Verizon Wireless. This technology competes with GSM, used by AT&T and T-Mobile.

CDMA is a "spread spectrum" technology, which means that it spreads the information contained in a particular signal of interest over a much greater bandwidth than the original signal.

Unlike many competing technologies, CDMA has no hard limit for the number of users who may share one base station (tower). Instead, with CDMA, additional users can connect until the base station determines that call quality would suffer beyond a set limit.

CDMA (IS-95) systems have been in commercial operation since 1995. CDMA networks operate in the 800 and 1900 MHz frequency bands with primary markets in the Americas and Asia.

IS-95 CDMA technology has also been called cdmaOne and cdma2000.

GSM
Global System for Mobile Communication.

GSM is the dominant 2G digital mobile phone standard for most of the world. It determines the way in which mobile phones communicate with the land-based network of towers.

GSM is one of two major mobile phone technologies in the U.S. The other is CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. GSM is more prevalent in most other parts of the world, and especially in Europe.

Although GSM and CDMA provide similar basic features and services to end-users, (such as voice calling, text messaging, and data services,) they operate very differently at many technical levels. This makes GSM phones completely incompatible with CDMA networks, and vice-versa.

The most visible feature of GSM are SIM cards. SIM cards are removable, thumbnail-sized smart cards which identify the user on the network, and can also store information such as phone book entries. SIM cards allows users to switch phones by simply moving their SIM card from one phone to the other.

Wilson Amps will work for all of this and others like EDGE, TDMA, etc...

Again,
I.T.

Rather than invest money into a particular device/antenna that may or may not solve your problem, you might look into a company that can help understand all the factors behind your problem and provide a systematic solution customized for your office's particular needs.

Harris Communications, for example, can help understand everything behind your problems and provide a solution independent of your provider that fits your particular office: Cell Phone Booster | Business WiFi | Cell Phone Repeaters | Cellular, Wireless Solutions

It means that whether the person is not reachable or the connection data card is not in the mobile at that time.
