Default Best way to get 140m wireless range?

Hi im new to wireless so any help would be great.
Im trying to find out how best to send an internet connection over 140 metres. Obviously it can be done but how would you reccommend doing it? Can I use a long range card and a long range router to achieve this? Or do I get an ordinary card/router and buy big antennas? Can you advise me on any particular products?

Do you mean 140m point-to-point or over a wide spread? Regardless of direction the key thing is to establish that the line of sight is good (i.e. no concrete walls etc blocking the signal).

If it is then almost any off the shelf wireless products will do this no worries. You will need to attach a higher gain antenna though so make sure whatever gear you buy has an external antenna connector. Regarding the antennas themselves, there are many to choose from.

A 7-9dBi omni should do the trick if you want wide coverage, if you are going point-to-point then something in the order of a yagi or grid atenna around 9-15dBi would suffice.

Yeah point-to-point is what I'm after.
The aim is to send Woosh from our woolshed to our house because the woolshed seems to be the closest place we can get it (presumably because of a valley between the surrounding hills).
If I mount it on the roof the line of sight should be perfect.

Do I need a similar/identical antenna on the router and the PCI Card?
What about a flat panel antenna?
Will an antenna that says it is for a 802.11b connection be able to support the higher speeds of 802.11g? (Not that it will matter much in my situation)

I'm looking at antennas on Go Wireless NZ, is there other places I should be looking?

Thanks for your help
Sorry I'm asking so many questions!

Panel antennas are fine, in your situation something like the 12dBi mini patch antenna or 14dBi Rootenna would suit well. The mini patch is extremely small so creates a low visual inpact, the Rootenna is a little larger and uglier but you can put a wireless bridge inside it to save antenna cabling.

You can use any combination of antennas but it makes sense to use antennas of a similar gain at each end. Also, any 2.4GHz antenna will support both 802.11b and 802.11g. Dale at Go Wireless is excellent to deal with, I highly recommend him. Even give him a call and I'm sure he will be happy to discuss your options.
