Heres my situation, I made a deal with the neighbors about 300-400 feet away to share high speed connection wirelessly (because I cant get it at my house). On their end they put the router in their room closest to me (in the window). Right now i have a wireless garden super-cantenna mounted reverse on a 22" satellite dish (this was the best signal I could get after a few days of tweaking). With that, i can usually connect to the internet but the signal strength fluctuates and sync rates are only between 1 and 5.5 mbps. I was thinking of beefing up the power on my end. What is the best way to go about this? get a higher power PCI card? Access point? Range extender/repeater? Im not sure how the repeaters work...But i was thinking an access point would allow me to move the wifi antenna to higher grounds and just run a cat5 cable to it using PoE. Im guessing a repeater would pick up the existing signal and re-broadcast that on another channel??
