difference between wired printer and using it wireless with an AP
Hello,
I have an HP OfficeJet 7680 with an ethernet port on it. When I connect it to my router I am able to use all the functionality and run the HP install software.
I wanted to move the printer to a different room from where the router is so I bought a wireless access point (WAP) and hooked up the printer to it and I am able to printer.
However, I have some problems. I can only install the HP printer software on the PCs if the printer is directly connected to the router. If I have the printer connected to the WAP I cannot install the HP software because the software cannot find the printer although it has the same IP address wired or wireless. Also some of the printer functionality like scanning from the printer to a computer does not work when the printer is on the WAP. I also have a Macbook that is not able to print to. My wife has a Mac which I am too familiar with and on top of that it is in German so it makes it somewhat difficult. And my wife is not too patient so it is somewhat difficult to diagnose.
When I found the access point that I bought I figured it would be somewhat transparent to the printer and the computers and would not matter. However, I guess there is a difference between a wired connection and a wireless connection and I am trying to get an understanding of why that is.
