I'm wanting to learn how to set up my ECB3500 with computers running Ubuntu. The situation is the marina office broadcasts a wifi signal (encrypted & we have the code). We want to use the ECB3500 to receive and transmit through an external antenna. The ethernet output of the ECB3500 is to go to the ethernet jack on a HP s7727c with an AMD64 and NVIDIA chipsets. The Ubuntu version is Karmic 9.10.
I have been able to set the computer to 192.168.1.1x & 255.255.255.0. I'm not sure of other settings. However, I am able to enter the ECB's software at 192.168.1, find the marina signal and enter the security code. I come back to the computer and reset it to auto DHCP. The indicator on the desktop shows connection to the marina. But there is no wifi coming into the computer, i.e., no internet is found with the browser.
So, to make my request clear,
1) can someone please tell me which of the seven modes on the ECB3500 I should use and
2) can someone tell me what settings the computer's wireless settings should be.
Here are what's on the computer I think might be relevant:
(The following choices were taken from Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, not from 9.10)
----Under the tab Wireless----
There are two check boxes: Connect automatically; Available to all users.
----Under the tab Wireless Security----
Drop down box options: WEP 40/128-bit Key; WEP 128-bit Passphrase; LEAP; Dynamic WEP (802.1x); WAP & WPA2 Personal; WPA & WPA2 Enterprise.
----Under the tab IPv4 ------
Method has five choices: Automatic (DHCP); Automatic (DHCP) addresses only; Manual; Link-Local Only; Shared to other computers.
DHCP client ID
Routes has a sub window with: Address, Netmask, Gateway, Metric.
Also there are two checkboxes: Ignore automatically obtained routes, and Use this connection only for resources on its network.
Your assistance in getting wireless into the boat is appeciated. Doug
